Wander Over Yonder Wiki's block policy must be followed by all administrators and bureaucrats. If a user believes somebody should be blocked, they have the right to reach out to an administrator and argue their case by referencing the guidelines below.
Admins must apply the rules equally to all, in an impartial and civil manner. Punishment should never be based on personal negative bias from the admin or other users.
Asking To Stop
Punishments are not always necessary. Users creating a disruption without obvious malicious intent should be gently corrected. These disruptions include profanity, spamming, and inoffensive vandalism, such as adding fan fiction or off-topic content to pages. Admins should comment on the user's message wall, stating which actions violated WOY Wiki's guidelines, and link any page(s) with relevant information.
Any number of violations by a user, especially of the same type (i.e. all vandalism), within 24 hours or otherwise done "back to back," should be treated as a single violation. However, in cases of vandalism where previous edits were reverted, then overturned by the vandal, this is considered an additional offense. In cases of prohibited content or speech being deleted from the discussion feed, then reuploaded by the original poster, this is an additional offense as well.
Users making an honest or "newbie mistake" will likely acknowledge a first warning and cease their behavior. Users that continue their behavior will be suspected of deliberately violating the rules.
Punishments
If a user receives a warning statement by an admin about their actions, yet repeats the violation, especially within a short time period (i.e. insulting another user twice in 1 month), they are considered a repeat offender. All admins must issue warning statements or blocks to users based on the offenses and their corresponding punishments listed below:
- No Profanity: All language on WOY Wiki must be PG. The severity should be judged on a case-by-case basis. Profanity not meant to insult another user is less severe. First offense: Ask them to stop. Second offense: 1 day block. Third offense: 3 day block. Fourth offense: 1 week block. Fifth offense: If applicable, consult fellow admin for second opinion on whether to issue a block lasting from 2 weeks to 6 months. If the profanity was against another user, see "No Insults or Harassment."
- No Insults or Harassment: The severity should be judged on a case-by-case basis. Insults with vulgar language are more severe. First offense: 1 day-1 week. Second offense: 3 days-2 weeks. Third offense: If applicable, consult fellow admin for second opinion on whether to issue a block lasting from 1 month to indefinitely.
- No Slurs/Sexual Language/Hate Speech (aggression towards users based on religion, sexuality, race, etc.): These should be judged on a case-by-case basis. Using slurs, aggressive speech, or sexual language is less severe if the intent was non-malicious humor or sarcasm. First offense: If non-malicious, ask them to stop, if malicious, 1 week block. Second offense: 1 week-1 month block. Third offense: If applicable, consult fellow admin for second opinion on whether to issue a block lasting from 1 month to indefinitely.
- No Spam (posting meaningless statements, links, or images to the discussion feed or user profiles): First offense: Ask them to stop. Second offense: 1 week block. Third offense: 1 month block. Fourth offense: If applicable, consult fellow admin for second opinion on whether to issue a block lasting from 1 month to indefinitely.
- No Censored or Uncensored Pornography: Delete the pictures and any associated links ASAP from WOY Wiki. First offense: Indefinite block.
- No Suggestive Imagery or Graphic Violence (non-pornographic): Delete the pictures and any associated links ASAP from WOY Wiki. The severity should be judged on a case-by-case basis. First offense: 1 week-1 month block. Second offense: 1 month-3 month block. Third offense: If applicable, consult fellow admin for second opinion on whether to issue a block lasting from 1 month to indefinitely.
- No Inappropriate Usernames: Names with profanity, slurs, hate speech, or sexual language must be indefinitely blocked. The user is permitted to rejoin under a new account with an appropriate username.
- No Evading Blocks: Spare accounts created to evade a block from WOY Wiki should be blocked indefinitely. Sometimes users may be repeating the same violations under a different IP address or account from their main account. If it can be proven or strongly suspected, issue a block to the main account as well. If the main account was blocked temporarily to begin with, double its original duration.
Notifying Users of A Block
When blocking any users, admins must provide a clear, impartial statement to explain why the block was issued and how long it will last. When issuing the block, they should not select "Editing their own Talk page" under "Block details." This is to ensure the user can appeal their block if they feel it was unwarranted.
A template was created for leaving a standardized message on a user's "About" page.
Lifting a Block
Blocked users can appeal by editing their Talk page to state their case. If it is a sound argument and grounded in the Simplified Ruleset and/or Block Policy, an admin may decide to shorten or lift a block. If the argument is read and rejected, an admin should address it by editing the user's Talk page to explain why. If two or more admins disagree on whether to shorten or lift a block, an agreement should be reached before modifying it. No admins should remove a block placed by another admin without consulting them first.
