Wander Over Yonder Wiki

Wander and Sylvia save a group of kids from a Dominator invasion as the kids tell stories about a familiar mythic hero.[1]

Episode Summary[]

While Lord Dominator is attacking a planet, a little girl named Angela runs round to look for something. She runs into her house and her older sister Melode angrily asks why she did not go to the evacuation ship. Angela shows that she wanted her Zbornak plush which Melodie is sympathetic to. The other children, Jamie, David and Hank, that came with Melodie point out that Lord Dominator's bots are outside and arguing on how to defeat them. During the argument all the evacuation ships left and Melody tries to comfort everyone that the "hero of legend" will save them. Sylvia and Wander burst through the house (ridiculously and on fire), introduce themselves, and use Orbble Juice to escape the doomed planet with the children. While the group travels to meet up with the ships, Wander asks about the "hero of legend". As each refugee tells their own interpretation of the hero (each is inaccurate and vaguely disturbing) Wander and Sylvia realizes that they are talking about them. They set up camp on another planet to stay the night. The night before everyone can get to the ship, Lord Dominator's bots attack. Wander and Sylvia cause a diversion while sending the children to the ship. Melodie says if they ever come across the hero she will send them their way. Sylvia asks Wander why he did not tell them the truth. Wander realizes that their stories of him gave them hope which was more important than the truth. Wander jokingly call Sylvia, Silver 7 as they defeat the bots. Angela realizes the duo are the heroes she heard as she gleefully hugs her toy.

Quotes[]

Background[]

  • Melodie mentions Wander's species is a "star nomad", which is a fanmade term given to his species by fans. This episode also shows how other members of Wander's species could look like, at least in Melodie's portrayal. (Star Nomad is not yet confirmed as Wander's species although it is probable.)
  • Silver7 is a reference to one the very first Mecha manga/animes, Tetsujin 28-go (Iron Man 28), aired in the United States as Gigantor, which has established many genre rules and cliches still in use even today.
  • Sabrina Carpenter from Disney Channel's Girl Meets World guest stars as Melodie in this episode.

Trivia[]

  • The idea for this episode was inspired by a Batman comic known as The Batman Nobody Knows and was put down under 4 segments each with an opportunity to explore different visual styles for each story. The first segment, which was told from Hank, came from James W. Suhr which shows a sketchbook kind of art style, the second, from Jamie, came from Justin Nichols which was more of a radical art style depicting Wander as a stereotypical "cool guy", the third, being David's story, came from Ben Balistreri which was close to the old anime shows like Astro Boy, and the last one, which was Melodie's story, came from ND Stevenson, who made the familiar art-style as his graphic novel Nimona to fit her story.[2]
  • Melodie breaks the fourth wall by saying that the children's stories are hardly canon (canon refers to official information about a character, usually from it's creator. She is referring to commonly inaccurate and childhood-ruining fanfiction).

Continuity[]

Errors[]

  • Melodie says that Wander was part of the original Star Nomads, but said that he had a father. Is it possible that his father somehow wasn't a Star Nomad, or was this to prove that she doesn't know what she's talking about?

Allusions[]

  • When the hero squeezes Hater, one of the kids are humming the funeral marrch.
