Monkeyboy

Monkeyboy is a chimpanzee or ape with a single cameo in The Waste of Time. On April 12th, 2016, the character's name was revealed by Frank Angones on Tumblr, who went on to explain that Monkeyboy was an important part of Season 3. Despite its cancelation, the crew loved him so much that Craig McCracken slipped him into The Waste of Time at the last minute.

Monkeyboy's intended role is a mystery. Frank Angones declined to answer further questions on the subject, but admitted the character was "connected to more than one of our mains in a major way." Later that year in August, he confirmed Monkeyboy was not the Season 3 antagonist.

Speculation

• Fans have theorized Monkeyboy may be Lord Hater from the past.
  • Their faces share superficial similarities.
  • The end credits animatic for The End of the Galaxy shows a NASA-like spacecraft crashed into a planet. A monkey can be heard screeching inside as green sparks fly out, before it transitions to laughter that sounds like Lord Hater.
  • Craig McCracken replied with a non-answer to a Tumblr post claiming Frank Angones had debunked the theory: "Remember, characters go by many names in this series."
• Another theory suggests Monkeyboy was a friend or family member from Lord Hater's past.
  • Dave Thomas implied there were plans to cover Lord Hater's family in Season 3.
  • Frank Angones was asked what plotline he would choose for a Wander Over Yonder movie if Season 3 was never renewed. He gave an answer with unclear context: "Wander confronts Lord Hater’s previous best friend."
